Brave Health Group is a multidisciplinary team of registered and experienced psychologists, nutritionists, exercise physiologists, personal trainers and occupational therapists that specialise in helping people overcome trauma related symptoms.
We are highly skilled practitioners and many of our practitioners have had first hand experience working within the emergency services and understand the challenges attending critical incidents and the subsequent symptoms that can develop.
We strive to create an environment, which is safe but challenging using a multi-dimensional approach to treatment. A key focus with our intervention programs is the comprehensive integration of psychological therapy with an individualised exercise program which is often supplemented with other modalities including Art Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness. A number of research studies have shown the direct benefits of exercise programs for people experiencing negative symptoms as the result of being involved in a trauma incident.
Research has shown that many people suffering with symptoms from Post Traumatic Stress Disorders have significantly reduced activity in various areas of the frontal lobe, particularly the Medial Prefrontal Cortex. A properly designed exercise program has been found to increase proteins in the bloodstream contributing to an increase in MPFC activity. The Black Dog Institute, who is a leader in national mental health, have written about treatment for post traumatic stress disorder and highlight three broad categories of treatment for PTSD: psychological treatments (talking therapies); physical treatments (medications); and the third category being exercise, mindfulness and self-help. The Black Dog Institute suggests that a combination of treatments works best. Our aim is to develop individualised exercise programs, which are directly linked and aligned to the client’s psychological needs. We have designed our programs where possible to ensure that the psychological therapy takes place immediately following the exercise program.
Brave Health Group’s psychological interventions are always influenced by the client’s psychological and psychosocial needs. We offer a range of interventions including Exposure Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, EMDR, Mindfulness and some supplementary modalities including Somatic Movement Therapies. Many of the practitioners at Brave Health Group have had first hand experience and exposure to trauma and have assisted various people with symptoms related to trauma incidents. Our practitioners are confident that they will be able to develop a positive and safe therapeutic relationship with people experiencing negative symptoms from trauma.
