Brave Health Group has a focus on integrating psychological therapy, trauma aware yoga and physical exercise and this is encouraged throughout the treatment plan. Our team has been developed specifically to integrate the positive aspects of psychological therapy whilst leveraging off the many added benefits of movement for mental health issues such as PTSD, Depression and Anxiety. There are a number of evidence based studies which show that either exercise and yoga when augmented with standard psychological interventions significantly reduces depressive and anxiety symptoms. Additionally, the American Psychological Society has written about the exercise effect and in 2011 one study suggested exercise in many ways is like exposure treatment and people learn to associate the symptoms with safety instead of danger. We have also carefully created a purpose designed yoga and personal training studio onsite which allows our team to utilise specific equipment in a safe and nurturing environment. At your appointment our Psychologist may discuss appropriate trauma aware exercise options and we are proud to announce that new specialised classes for clients will be commencing in February 2021.

Brave Health Group is a multidisciplinary team of registered and experienced psychologists, nutritionists, exercise physiologists, personal trainers and occupational therapists that specialise in helping people overcome the challenges in life. We are professional and empathetic practitioners who deliver authentic care and assistance using our wide range of high quality service and products.
Our services are divided into four distinct areas, the first being the management of trauma related symptoms often caused by work related factors. The second area of focus is around weight regulation/weight loss and the related challenging psycho-social, physical and psychological symptoms. The third area of focus is animal assisted therapy and our Occupational Therapist is the primary clinician who integrates therapy dogs and horses in her treatment plans with a particular focus on clients from NDIS.
The fourth area of focus relates to the utilisation of yoga/mindfulness programs to minimise the symptoms of trauma and anger. These programs are both developed and taught by qualified psychologists who are also qualified yoga teachers. This is important and ensures that all teaching is aligned appropriately between yoga classes and psychological treatment plans. Brave Health Group has a breadth of experience in helping clients to achieve professional success during challenging times. Additionally the principal psychologist and head yoga teacher is qualified in both fields and has been trained at Harvard University by the medical editor of the Harvard Medical School “An Introduction to Yoga” The additional qualifications and multi-disciplinary team enables Brave Health Group to undertake some psychometric testing only permitted by qualified psychologists.
Brave Health Group ensures where possible the four areas of focus have a specific emphasis on applying a real “ body and mind" integration. Importantly, Brave Health Group utilises scientific evidence as a foundation for all interventions and can create individualised movement programs and supervision of each exercise session. This type of treatment program promotes an increase in proteins that travel through the bloodstream to the pre-frontal cortex, which is responsible for executive thinking, and this area of the brain is often subdued for many of our clients.
We also undertake group therapy sessions where we integrate psychological therapy immediately afterwards. Research has shown that exercise immediately prior to psychological therapy enhances blood flow to the pre- frontal cortex and improves processing speed and cognitive flexibility. Cognitive flexibility is an important executive function that improves our ability to shift thinking and the capacity to navigate the feelings of being "stuck" .
