Brave Health Group understands that many of our clients from the military and first responder communities have experienced significant levels of trauma attending many traumatic events. On some occasions members from these communities can also present with symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Recent research has reported that 84 percent of a military sample who had been diagnosed with PTSD also reported significant anger symptoms. It is Brave Health Group's view that anger is a normal reaction to some traumatic events and it is important to treat the anger symptoms with empathy and understanding. We understand the relationship between PTSD and Anger and our clinicians are well trained to respond to any anger symptoms displayed by our clients in a caring and structured way.
On some occasions the symptoms of anger need to be managed as the primary issue before any other mental health concerns are considered. Our clinicians are well supported to identify the appropriate treatment interventions and we have a dedicated Anger Program which is supported by our Anger Yoga program which is dedicated to reducing the common factors in the maintenance of anger.
As a component of our Anger program we understand the impacts of working in hostile environments and a primary theory we consider useful in determining our treatment approach is the Survival Mode theory. The impact of working in hostile environments can include that clients can often over-estimate the risks presented to them particularly when off-duty or in a non deployed environment. This can also lead to challenges with behaviour in home environments. With the clients permission we attempt to measure the assessment of these risks and responses using an EEG headset to measure baseline assessments and we also attempt to measure these assessments after the treatment intervention to measure progress.
We also utilise Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) as a method to minimise the impact of anger symptoms on family and career.
Brave Health Group has made the decision to administratively separate the anger therapy into a distinct business unit registered as "Anger Management Australia", working under the supervision and management of Brave Health Group. This will allow some of our clinicians to specialise in Anger and in some circumstances enable clients to specifically focus on anger symptoms alone.
